Buffalo Invisalign Provider - Dr. Judi John-Roberts - Clear Braces in Western New York
Having crooked teeth can lead to all kinds of issues, including low self-esteem and low confidence, as well as oral health and hygiene problems. And when we get older, we're often reluctant to take the drastic step of wearing braces for several years to correct the problem. Fortunately, there's Invisalign, a tooth-alignment system that's virtually non-detectable, and is suitable for both teens and adults. At Amherst Dentistry in East Amherst we provide Invisalign to people in the Western New York area, with a friendly and caring team of professionals providing the very best in dental care.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an alternative system of tooth alignment that doesn't rely on obtrusive metal and ceramic fixtures. Instead, this system uses clear plastic mouth trays, customized to fit a patient's teeth and mouth. The trays are designed using sophisticated dental imaging equipment, and for most Invisalign patients, their personal Invisalign system consists of up to 30 sets of these trays.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign works in a similar fashion to traditional braces, in that force is exerted on the teeth to move them into new positions. However, the way the force is exerted is what makes Invisalign unique.
With Invisalign, the plastic trays are what exert the force that causes the teeth to shift. Each tray in the series is slightly different from the last, and with the first tray being very similar to their original tooth alignment. The last tray represents their tooth alignment goal—the alignment their teeth will be in at the end of treatment. As the patient switches from one tray to the next in the series, their teeth are gradually forced into the desired alignment, due to the force exerted by the durable plastic.
Who can Use Invisalign?
Most people with minor and moderate tooth alignment problems make good candidates for Invisalign. Common issues that Invisalign can fix include tooth gaps and crowded teeth, as well as different kinds of bite problems.
